As a Reno local, popping up to Tahoe for a long weekend is my idea of a perfect staycation. It’s also allowed me to try many of the major hotels in the area, and out of them all, I have a favorite.
In Tahoe, it’s all about location, and Edgewood has that cornered. It’s a splurge to stay there, but one we’ll probably make again. Here’s everything to know before you book:
(By the way, I paid for this stay!)
Edgewood Rooms and Grounds
The moment you step into Edgewood, you’re greeted by the stunning architecture and classy ambiance that immediately makes you feel like you’ve walked into a luxury experience. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, with large windows that offer breathtaking views of the lake or the meticulously maintained golf course. It’s easily the best boutique hotel in South Lake.
We got upgraded at check in to a lakeside room, and waking up to the view of Lake Tahoe every morning was magical.
The grounds of Edgewood are impressive. The resort is surrounded by pines and is right on the beach in Lake Tahoe, which is actually rare for most accommodations. There’s almost always a road to cross or a parking lot to deal with when visiting Tahoe, so having a private beach right on the property is a huge plus. For those who enjoy a bit of activity, there are plenty of water sports available, from paddleboarding to kayaking. There are also sand toys for kids and a huge chess board.
One of the highlights for us was the heated outdoor pool. Our little guy had an absolute blast splashing around, and we loved lounging by the poolside, eating frozen grapes from the poolside bar. The pool area is beautifully designed, with plenty of seating and cabanas.
How to Book Edgewood for Extra Benefits
Edgewood is a family-owned resort that isn’t part of any big chains like Marriott or Hyatt, so how do you get upgrades or perks if you can’t bank on status?
Edgewood is part of Virtuoso, a luxury hotel booking platform that offers the following benefits at no extra cost (and sometimes I’ve found cheaper room rates too!) at Edgewood:
- Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability.
- Daily breakfast credit of $60 per room.
- $100 USD Resort or Hotel credit to be utilized during stay.
- Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability.
Though it depends on availability, we were able to check in an hour early, check out at 4pm — which was huge and felt like we almost got another day for free — and got a room upgrade to a partial view and larger space. The breakfast at Edgewood is otherwise not included, so it was great to have that covered, and the $100 resort credit covered our pool lunches.

Why Edgewood Over a Vacation Rental?
When we were weighing staying at a vacation rental over Edgewood, I finally decided, you know what? It’s not a vacation for me if I have to cook, wash dishes, or have any logistics to get to the lake. I want it to be easy, I want to be taken care of, and I want a pool for our little guy.
For many who stay, it’s to have a family or solo vacation while staying on Tahoe’s best golf course as well. That’s the best thing about luxury resorts – you’re totally taken care of, and that’s how it feels at Edgewood.
Edgewood is a family-owned resort that you don’t really have to leave to enjoy Tahoe. So for people like us who wanted to minimize logistics and ideally not touch our car during our stay, it was ideal.
Dining at Edgewood
Although I loved our stay, food and beverage is one area where I think Edgewood could, and should, step it up. While the food was good at Edgewood, and we were happy to eat our meals there, it should be great. It should be the best at the lake.
I’d call it classic west coast American food, with burgers and eggs Benedict and tacos. The menu has a decent variety, and we loved the convenience of eating there.
The other benefit is access to some of the best area’s restaurants right at state line, and Edgewood offers free transport that reaches most if not all of them, so they’re easy to access without worrying about driving or parking.
I also feel at this price point that breakfast could be an included amenity, but we were able to get that as a booking perk through Virtuoso, so it wasn’t a big deal for us.
Activities and Amenities
Edgewood famously has a golf course, which is a draw for most visitors, I’m sure.
We’re not golfers, and there’s plenty to do if you’re not, either.
The resort has a large pool and hot tub that’s heated year-round and has lake views, they have a nice selection of games, both outdoors and indoors, a private beach, and access to some of the area’s best skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. Emerald Bay is not too far if you’re in for a drive.
If you’re into photography, many of my favorite Tahoe photo spots are in the area.
Our Experience at Edgewood
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and pampered. The staff at Edgewood truly goes above and beyond to ensure their guests have a memorable stay.
One of the standout moments for us was the nightly s’mores by the fire pit. It was a wonderful way to end the day, sitting by the fire, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying the company of other guests. It’s little touches like this that make Edgewood stand out from other resorts.
Another highlight was the private beach. It was so convenient to have access to such a beautiful stretch of beach without the crowds. We spent hours building sandcastles, swimming, and simply relaxing by the water.
The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was larger than some entire apartments I’ve lived in. We appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the plush bathrobes and the nightly turndown service.

Final Thoughts
Edgewood Tahoe is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience. As a local, I feel fortunate to have such an amazing resort just a short drive away.
It’s a splurge, yes, but it’s one that is well worth it. We left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and already planning our next stay. If you’re considering a trip to Lake Tahoe, I highly recommend Edgewood. It’s a place where you can truly relax, be pampered, and create lasting memories.
